Virginia/Washingtion D.C

Back in 2017 my boyfriend and I tagged along with his dad and brother to Virginia. His uncle lives there on a small ranch. I didn’t know what to expect when getting there. All I knew was it was across the country. I was excited to be able to visit D.C. while on the trip. We took a red-eye flight once we landed it was early in the morning and we could barely keep our eyes open. When we got to the ranch we were quickly able to say hello to his grandparents and the horses and go right to sleep.

When we woke up I finally went outside to see the horses and look at the property. Man, I knew it was going to be humid but it was so humid I could feel the air.

For our first dinner, we went to a local stop where his uncle and aunt loved. It was wild seeing all the confederate flags waving in front of everyone’s yards. Now my boyfriend’s family is white and I am Latin so when we were out people were looking at me kind of funny. Being from California I had never experienced anything like this. It made me so uncomfortable I didn’t even want to go out anymore. But I sucked it up and didn’t want it to ruin our trip. The little town that Ian’s uncle lived in was actually really cute. They had a lot of little shops that you could spend hours in.

It was finally the day to drive to D.C. We got up early to beat the traffic and so we had enough time to do everything we wanted. It was so surreal to see all the national monuments. I have always seen them in movies or on the news but in person, they were breathtaking.

We got to see it all: Wahington Monument, Lincoln Memorial, The Korean War Veterans Memorial, Vietnam Veterans Memorial, and of course we walked passed the White House. It was amazing going into the museums as well. We learned so much on this trip.
