It was Ian’s mom’s 50th birthday and she wanted to celebrate it with a bang! So we all packed our bags and headed to the big island for a little over a week. I was so excited to be able to go on this trip and get to see the beautiful island. When we landed we were welcomed with lays and the heat. Driving up to the Airbnb we saw the beautiful water surrounding Kona.
When we drove up to the house, we couldn’t believe our eyes, the house was huge. We had ten people in our group so I knew it would be big but not that big. When we were getting the tour from the owners they said that a player from the Giants got married at the house a couple years ago.
Our first order of business was to unpack and get into our swimsuits. Right outside the house was the ocean with a great rock to climb on. While jumping into the ocean we noticed something big swimming our way we jumped out so fast thinking it was a shark. But when we looked closely we saw a giant turtle head poking out of the water. I have never seen a turtle that big. It was the cutest thing and he stuck around for a while.
We all decided to walk down the beach to see what else was by the house. We saw a nice little area where people were swimming so we decided to stop there. While in the water we saw there were a lot of sea urchins in the water.
In Kona, we spent a lot of time at the Kona brewing company. They had live music, fantastic beer and it was just down the street from our house. We also took a trip to the green sand beach. This was a crazy adventure. When we got there they had big trucks that were driving people to the beach. It was only a mile walk so we thought we could do it no problem. Little did we know that mile I thought was going to kill us. It was so hot to this day I’m not sure how we made it. By the time we made it to the beach we were all exhausted but we were ready to jump in the water. This beach had green sand and was a cover so the waves would pull you back a forth with no effort. It was scary to try to get out of the water because by the time you were about to jump out the wave would suck you back in. However, it is a MUST!
Hawaii was an amazing experience and I can’t wait to go back.
