Weekend Trip to SF

For Valentines Day last year Ian and I decided to spend the weekend in the city.   We haven’t gone away in a while so we thought this would be a perfect time.

We found this perfect hotel right next to the SF Chronical. I especially loved it because there was a Blue Bottle coffee shop right next door. This SF trip was going to be everything we’ve always wanted to do but haven’t.

For our first night, we went out to this vegan restaurant that had a Spanish twist to it. They had flamingo dancers performing while you ate. It was the coolest thing to watch. After the performance was done we didn’t want to go home so we decided to find a bar nearby and grab a couple more drinks.

The next morning we woke up early, headed to blue bottle coffee and went to Alamo Square. This is where the painted ladies are (the houses from Full house). I have lived in the Bay Area my whole life and had never seen them in person, so it was a must. We were close to Haight St. so we decided to walk over that way. We say that Ben & Jerry’s had non-dairy flavors now so we ran in to see what we could find. Lucky they had two flavors so we each got one.

For dinner that night we heard of this vegan sushi restaurant called Shizen Vegan Sushi bar & Izakaya that you needed to make reservations out days before. Luckily we were able to snag a reservation that night at 9pm. So we took a nap and it was time for dinner. This wasn’t a big restaurant and there were no walk-ins welcome. We got to sit down fairly quickly and we were just staring at everyone’s table to see what the best things were.

We started off with a big bowl of miso soup and asked the waiter what was the most popular rolls. Everything was so delicious I can’t wait to go back.

For our last day in the city, we got tickets for Alcatraz. Something Ian has done when he first moved here. But like I said before, I have lived here my whole life and have never been to the island. We plugged our headsets in and listened to all the stories and histories that were on this island. It was great to see the city from Alcatraz too. I can’t wait for another weekend getaways to SF.
