For my 21st birthday, my family took me to Mexico. We decided on Cancun at a resort that had great reviews. At this resort, we were able to do all-inclusive so we didn’t have to worry about having to pay for anything after the initial fee. I was so excited to be able to finally be able to travel to a different county with my family. It was our first time going on a major trip together.
When we got to the resort the first thing I wanted to do was have a margarita in the pool. It was something I was looking forward to. The resort was right on the water and you could hear the ocean when you opened up the windows. We got to go to a big family dinner our first time for my birthday. I just remember the food was amazing.
A couple days into our trip we rented a car and drove to Chichén Itzá. One of the seven wonders of the world. I was so excited to see the pyramids and the beautiful property that they were on. We drove 3 hours to the property. The drive was beautiful. Filled with green trees and people walking around everywhere. When we got there there was a line out the door and there were a lot of tour buses in the parking lot. We finally got to the check-in and we had the option to get a guided. We decided to get one and we got the best one. Our guide actually lived on the property when he was a boy. He told us that this wasn’t a tourist attraction when he was going up. He and his friends would play on the pyramids and look up at the stars at night.
The day we went was a special day because the sun was going to hit the pyramid at the right moment to make a serpent shadow go up the side of the pyramid. When it was 5 minutes till the exact time, their clouds came out of nowhere and the sun went away. I have never seen it rain so hard in my life. Our guide said he has never seen anything like that before. It was amazing.
